Smiles and Yawns

Reese is two months old already (9 weeks). We just took her to the pediatrician and she is a healthy 12 lbs. and is now 23 inches long which put her in the 85% percentile for both height and weight. She received her first round of vaccines which gave her the opportunity to excercise her lungs. Mike and I don't think we had ever heard her scream that loudly. Lucky for us, she is mostly all smiles.
Her smile really does light up the room. We always have the camera nearby just in case something makes her happy. Because of this we also seem to have captured a lot of yawns...which are just as cute I think.

Reese is turning into a very good sleeper. She goes to bed around 8pm and has consistently been sleeping for 5-6 hours before waking up for her first feeding. She will sleep in her crib at night without too much trouble but as I mentioned in a previous post, she does not like to take her naps there.

She likes to be near us and will often fight her tired, heavy eyelids just to stay up and see what Mom and Dad are doing. Incidentally, I was the same way as a child so, what goes around comes around. She may be Daddy's Girl but she takes after her mother a good deal too.

Happy Father's Day!

It's Mike's first Father's Day and Reese and I gave him the option to go off on a bike ride or send us out of the house so he can enjoy some peace and quiet, but instead he opted to keep us around and spend the day with his family. Just one of the many reaons why I think he is a great dad!

But truthfully with a baby as cute as Reese, who can blame him! Here she is showing off her chubby cheeks and tummy.
Speaking of tummies, Reese spends some time on her tummy each day and as you can see, she is able to raise her head pretty well now.

The video below will show you just one of the many ways Reese likes to amuse herself. We call it "sucky face". At first I thought it meant she wanted to eat but now we think she's just playing with her lips. (Sorry it's so dark, we were watching a movie.)

Smiley baby!

Isn't that a beautiful smile? Mike was able to capture this picture with his cell phone so it's not the best resolution, but it is the best smile I've seen in a while so I wanted to share it with you.

Reese continues to bring us joy and keep us busy. She will flash her toothless grin several times a day. (Mike is an expert at making her smile. Despite the fact that I am her milk factory, I think she's already a Daddy's girl!)

She is sleeping for longer stretches at night which is wonderful but during the day she doesn't like nap in her crib. Instead she prefers to cat nap in her swing or vibrating chair which doesn't give her as much rest as she needs and she's fussy for the rest of the day. The alternative is that she wants to sleep in our arms. If we hold her she will sleep for longer periods of time but as you can imagine that limits our ability to get other trivial things done such as shower or eat lunch.

The nice thing is, now that Mike is only attending summer school 3 nights a week, both of us are home most of the time so we can relieve each other. Things will change in August when I go back to work but for now our tag team efforts seem to be working.

Six Weeks Old!

It is such a cliche to say, "They grow up so fast." but it's true! What happened to my newborn?!?
Reese is officially out of the newborn diapers and the newborn outfits. They have been washed and folded and are ready to be boxed up and stored for the next few years until we start planning for baby #2.

Per the pediatrician's orders, we are giving her "Tummy Time" a couple times a day so that she can strengthen her neck and back muscles. Her neck is getting stronger but I think it will still be awhile before she is holding her head up and rolling over on her own.

We are starting to see some deliberate smiles. (See our attempt to capture one on film below.) She is beginning to respond to our voices. Especially when we talk in soft, sweet tones, she knows we are talking to her.

Reese makes a lot of noise in her attempt to communicate with us and we enjoy every one of them from squawking to grunting, from hiccups to sneezing. But there is nothing we enjoy more then when we are gazing at our peacfeul little angel in her crib and she lets out a loud TOOT!

Ahh...these are the days...
