Quinn was born July 30th at 7:27pm. I was in labor about 16 hours followed by an intense but successful natural, VBAC delivery. He was 7lbs. 6oz and 19.5 inches.
One of the reasons I wanted to get back to blogging is because looking back at the posts I wrote about Reese is so helpful to have a written record of her development. I have been able to revisit when she hit certain milestones which can help me determine when Quinn might do the same.
For example, I'm having trouble getting Quinn on a sleep schedule. He's 7 weeks now and although he sleeps for an initial 4-5 hours between 8pm and 1am, he's up about every 2 hours after that. Also, he will sleep for hours on end in the car or the stroller but at home he has trouble staying asleep on his own.
I referred back to a post I wrote when Reese was 4 months and it described pretty much the same sleep pattern. It doesn't make me any less tired but it makes me more patient with Quinn, hopeful that he'll grow out of it soon and become as great a sleeper as his sister is.
Many things are much easier the second time around. Breastfeeding is a breeze, it helped that Quinn latched on properly right away but I think I have a lot more confidence in my own ability to produce enough milk. I nursed Reese for 7 months, I'd like to make it a full year this time.
It's also easier to get up early with the baby. Pre-Reese, I was a champion sleeper and could stay in bed until 10 or 11am. With Reese in my life the latest I have been able to sleep in over the last 3 years is 9am so, it's not as big an adjustment.
I was also out of the house sooner, granted Reese was a c-section so I didn't leave the house for about 5 weeks, other than to go to the doctor. Quinn has been all over town; the beach, the zoo, the Botanic Gardens, because were all trying to keep up with Reese!
Reese is doing very well in her role as big sister.
The first few weeks were challenging for all of us as we made room for our new family member. Reese fought to regain some of her lost attention and demanded that "help" her get dressed, eat and use the potty. There were also many times when she peed on the floor as if to say, "I'll make you pay attention to me." I sympathize with her. I too felt like I wasn't getting enough Reese time because my time was dis proportionally spent on the baby. Luckily, she did not take her frustrations out on Quinn. She has been gentle and sweet with him from the beginning and now we seem to have fallen into a routine that everyone is comfortable with.
So, thank you for your patience, the adventure, and this blog will continue!
